Amy, I could listen to you talk about color all day. There are many great things about Tibi, but I truly think your colors are EXCEPTIONAL!
No one does colors like Tibi. Loved this breakdown of different brands, had never thought about it this way but it makes sense.
Typically any designer will stick to their vibe and so it makes sense for brands to have color leanings. Curious how you think about designers moving to different brands. I was at Dior recently and saw how the typography on the book totes is just wonky. It’s not perfectly set, it is set as if we were still in the lead setting days with irregular spaces between letters. Now that can’t be a mistake, I wondered if that’s JA’s humor manifesting in a different way at Dior vs Loewe. Maybe we will start to see similar with colors too.
It's incredible how decisive the choice of colors is for individual narratives. This isn't (just) about semiotics; these aren't rigid structures. It's a grammar we can play with to construct stories and identities. Thank you, Amy, for this valuable contribution—it's one of the most useful tools to guide us in our daily choices. After all, we all get dressed every day.
Ah…this makes sense to me now. I see my favorite brands on your list use ring 3. I have always loved Dries..because somehow the prints speak to me in a way most do not…now I see the ring 3/4 combo is the reason..the ring 3 calms the ring four. And Bruno Cucinelli - ring 2 made more interesting with ring 3. Of late I am attracted to Odeeh…and when I looked at my purchases I see a lot of ring three in the solids I have chosen…and the prints always have ring 3 in them…sometimes with ring 2 and sometimes with ring 4. Color mystery solved…now it’s on to texture and silhouette!!
Anyone who thinks fashion is for airheads or whatever needs to read this, it’s so comprehensive & intelligent. Love Tibi & love hearing this behind the scenes take!
So not for airheads. Because when you realize personal style is deeply understanding who you are and commanding the ability to express it visually, and that the act of doing that everyday involves thinking deeply about what you need to do, say and convey, then it becomes what it is - a thoughtful exercise that strengthens our communication skills - often if no one but ourselves.
100 percent…incidentally “big, slim, skin” has been my mantra for a few years now when faced with the exact situation you describe, combing through mountains of clothes and thinking I have nothing to wear. I used to just wear things. And buy things because I liked them. So a bit of apprehension is healthy for sustainability reasons; algorithmically induced second guessing, not so much.
Thank you, Amy. You have truly changed the way I dress and a big part of that is the color theory. One request, if possible, I went to check your city guide because I’m going to Las Vegas for a few days and was surprised to see it wasn’t there!
Ahhhh, I was writing from what I know - but I forgot about Las Vegas - if I am packing for Vegas and it’s casino type trip I’m going with 2 + small amt of 1 and pops of 4. But if im enjoying the rest of Vegas, the desert, I mad 2+3 and pop of 4 and no 1.
