really appreciated reading these, more from a feedback-giver perspective than feedback-taker. i'm in a position of coaching junior team members and am always afraid of "offending" someone, when these are really just practical tips on how to do your job (does that sound offensive? lol).
Lovely text, so valuable! Thanks for sharing the lessons that you’ve learned 🙏🏼 I enjoy it when you write about clothing and style, and i love it when you write about life in general. You are a wise woman with impeccable taste!
I loved this article. I had a very very similar career path to you, Amy, so this really brought me back... the best, most memorable hard to hear but life changing advice I ever received was gifted to me as a young account supervisor at McCann by a venerable sr group director who was tough, intimidating, brilliant and extremely highly respected. She took me to lunch one day and said these words which still ring loudly in my ears 25+ years later... you know Jodi, you don't always have to say something. Even when you are right. Sometimes you can just be quiet.

This was really energizing to read. Being a female manager, I've often received feedback (by other women no less) that I am "too direct", but I have found and believe that directness is a good thing, not bad. Sometimes I wonder if it is a company culture or geography more so than age/tenure/experience or if it's all of the above that creates a culture of indirectness in guise of sensitivity or positivity. Anyway, I remain direct.

Reading this on the commute to day 3 of my AmEx internship was surprisingly timely, thanks for sharing these tips
Ahhhhh!!!! How funny. Good luck with your job and career. What a great place to get to learn from.
“Play your fucking position” when I was a new manager and was afraid to give feedback to course correct my directs.
That one has stuck with me forever. It gave me permission to step into whichever shoes I need to fill at the moment without apologies or hesitation.

Love this. But, many people can’t handle direct feedback I think.
Loved this ! Thank you.
“You will never be more than a glorified assistant.” It gave me the courage to finally leave that job
