In February 2017 I started a book. I talked about the trials and tribulations starting what is now a small, but highly successful company, as deemed by us and not anyone from Business of Fashion or other trade pontificators that may have entirely different metrics that, at the end of the day, mean nothing to us. How could they? We’ve always been an independent company, we’ve got some 60 employees give or take, and what we do everyday is deemed successful or not based on the high standards we put upon ourselves and the goals we collectively seek. How can I say collectively with confidence when one can never be so sure what each individual is thinking? I can say “collectively” because we’ve built a place where everyone has the same chance to succeed, make their mark and choose how they want/need to be fulfilled by the outcome of their work whether it’s creative fulfillment, financial fulfillment, pride in being a contributor - or better yet all three. It’s up to them but what we do know is that it’s near impossible to do this if you are a really large company. At least near impossible to do it for more than just a handful of individuals.
