Guessing Your Interior Style Based on Where You Land on the CP Scale
Because Creative Pragmatism extends beyond just the closet.
The Creative Pragmatist Scale has been perfected over the years. Whether highly creative or dogmatically pragmatic, we move along the scale. Some days we’re balanced right in the middle, other days has one end pulling us, magnetic-like, further to one side. It’s become second nature to us, and to so many of you, to move seamlessly along the scale depending on our mood. If you identify as a Creative Pragmatist, chances are you’ll see yourself in one of the following illustrations. At Tibi HQ, we debate and converse regularly about personal style—what it means to each of us, how it’s reflected in the films we watch, the foods we crave, and even what music gets us through our morning commutes. And importantly, how it’s reflected in what we wear, the visuals that connect what’s inside to the outside.
I recently moved into a new apartment, and after a lot of careful decision-making on furniture, I’ve finally surfaced for air. The whole process got me thinking—what would the CP Scale look like when it comes to interior design? I found myself with each interior decision running it through a process not dissimilar to how we think about reflecting our personal style through what we wear. So, I decided to take a stab at imagining what the homes of each type on the CP scale might look like.
C1 P10 / C2 P9
Okay, so you’re a C1 P10, or a C2 P9. You’re 100% CP, but pragmatism captains the ship when deciding what you’re looking for in a home environment. Your personality is injected throughout your space, with interesting, creative elements that still might make your houseguests cock their head to the side a bit—but your furniture is highly functional. Strong natural light, materials that truly make up the fabric of your lifestyle—these are the ingredients that make up your home. Perhaps there’s an interesting heirloom oil painting paired with a funky lamp that you found at a flea market a few years ago, giving the perfect marriage of classic and modern. Or a living room that is full of functional conversation areas—perfect for hosting.
C5 P5
Practicality isn’t lost on our C5 P5-ers. These spaces are cozy, lived in, functional. But take a closer look…a rich green ceiling draws the eye upward for a moment, before darting back down to earth. A vast kitchen island invites guests to gather around for good discourse when someone pauses…”Wait, did you notice this island is made from a strange blue marble?” These rooms are the definition of happy medium between pragmatic and creative, and the same could be said of those who inhabit these spaces and make them their own.
C6 P4 / C7 P3 / C10 P1
While some might be quick to assume that if you land anywhere between C6 P4, or C10 P1 on the Creative Pragmatist Scale you’re automatically considered a maximalist. While in some cases this may apply, it’s not necessarily representative of the entire population on this end of the CP Scale—it just means that you value a space that is highly creative over having the most comfortable, practical sofa for hosting friends. You feel energized in these spaces. That being said, your friends love coming to your place because it’s brimming with interest. A strange cobalt blue wall that somehow makes sense because it’s inextricably you, or a high-shine metallic silver sofa that you actually do sit on (no seriously—you do). Creativity is injected into every aspect of these rooms, and yet they feel just like home.
Good talk. Which of these rooms are you living in?

Interesting! I have a creative job so for me C1P10 (with green plants and a doggo added) is necessary at home to recharge and balance colours and shapes swirling around my brain at work
