As someone who has worked in smaller companies and bigger companies, this manifests very differently in the two situations. At the beginning of my career in the US I worked at a small agency. I was a designer but I was also the client coordinator and the person who goes to the print shop to check to make sure the prints are coming out right. I was the person running the accounts for my client and sometimes also the person making sure there was enough bread in the fridge to make lunch for everyone at the office that day. I loved all of it. I truly grew more than I could have at a bigger company within three years.
However working at a bigger company there are role profiles and performance evaluations and managers come and go and consistency of one's responsibilities becomes very important. Even so, within that framework I have seen that people who give themselves the flexibility to do whatever needs to be done and not utter the sentence "this is not in my job description" are the most successful at the end of the day. Systems are all human because they were made by humans. Even adhere to the system is better when done in a human way.
Yes all true. And Tibi is very much a Project Driven Organization - which means that you need to have an incredibly clear direction to point your compass, and then the trust in a team that has been given the resources/permission to help build the path to getting there. Especially when every year, due to the dynamic marketplace, the path’s often change - but the direction of the compass stays stet. Emeka helped me figure out some key things to get that compass set.
I love this, Amy.
