We have had an abundance of new readers join our publication since the last time we wrote about our monthly CP Radio music playlists. So, in light of this, as well as a truly wonderful selection of songs for our 13th installment of this franchise, I thought we should recontextualize our goal here, while also highlighting a few very special tracks from this month’s curation.
Intuition is really the sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life…. - Paolo Coelho
There is something quite intuitive about listening by geography, aligning music, and the artists, with the cities through which one passes. I realized this feeling this morning, walking to a coffee shop near our hotel in Vienna, Austria, but it is something I do quite a lot now that I think about it. We are here to open the Tibi Studio in partnership with Yasemin and The Store by Schneeweiss. The weather is classically cold, 45 degrees with a consistently crisp, cool breeze. Coming off of the 85 degree heat island effect of Manhattan, this new setting has engendered quite the shift in mood. As I plodded here in Vienna, I began to listen to what I thought would be CP Radio 013, and it just did not align. This happens from time to time as life is ever evolving, our senses constantly experiencing. I had included songs like Adome Nyueto by Yta Jourias and Blood Moon by Feater that I, two weeks prior, thought were right, and now they are not. Now, instead, I am more drawn to the essence of Rumble and Crawl by Chantel Van T, and the disposition of State Trooper by King Hannah (a Javier find).
My intuition was not wrong, it has just changed, and so too have our surroundings. In search of a new creative direction for CP Radio 013, I turned to a forever impactful artist of mine, HVOB, for guidance. I have written about this Austrian duo at length, and a few weeks ago they blessed the world with the release of their new album, To Close Your Eyes And See Fire, their first full project since 2022.
Immediately, I knew. It is rare, unprecedented actually, that I have ever included the entirety of an artist’s album on one of our playlists. With that said, HVOB is equally as rare and unprecedented of a musical duo, and so it is actually quite fitting. This decision was not made until today, one day out from the release of our playlist, but I cannot find it within myself, as I listen, to change course from this album. And that means something. It is a short and strong 23 minutes and 34 seconds - impactful, pushed, elegant. When I listen to this album, this playlist as a whole, complete now, it feels like our Fall 2025 Collection, and even more so like our 2025 Capsule.
October is a month of change. A shift of season that arrives in layers akin to those we begin to incorporate in our outfits and clothing. In line with this ethos, our playlist this month follows suit. A gradual evolution from the tones of summer to those more apt for a time when faded brown trees turn bare and shades of grey and dark whites characterize the cool air. While it can be easy to look at the successive months as a representation of deterioration and decay, we see them as a period for growth, and rejuvenation. A time to reassess, what worked this year, what did not, where have I been, and where am I going.
There are universal languages we all share, one of which is the wondrous beauty of sound. It connects, divides, evokes, and provokes. We look to CP Radio 013 to carry us through this transition of season, and life. Thoughtfully, and with purpose. A two hour curation of tracks to us from one place to another, the longitude and latitude of which I shall leave undefined, for the specifics are different for each us individually. However, through these sounds, we are in accord, at one.
This is what we are listening to for the month of October, and we would love for you to join us. Or not, and that’s okay. The point is connectivity, and so, if you can’t directly relate to every song, there is a way to find relation through the message, which is all that matters.
