when i first discovered tibi/cp/the color wheel, i ran out and bought a bunch of ring 4, sculptural, (good) weird things because I thought "i get it now! i get how to wear this stuff!" but i skipped building out my WOFs and ended up with a bunch of HTHs and I/Os, many of which are on the resale market. the foundation is crucial. without it it's like having a pantry full of expensive sugars and fancy vanilla extracts, but no solid flour, milk, or eggs to mix it with. i wanted cake, i got sugar sandwiches.
I always thought that quote was Mark Twain, but apparently it’s from Blaise Pascal in 1657. At least according to Google/ AI. That said, Amy, long is never too long with your writing! Love it all.
I have both boarded the Acela to DC and not Boston AND watched the wrong hockey game (how the hell is there a rink UPSTAIRS?) ... also yesterday was not Wednesday , which is why I had the wrong gear when I arrived at the gym. I think of it as a sign of a joyfully full brain and life. Most of the time.
“Yesterday was not Wednesday”!! Since retiring I open my eyes each morning and have to ask myself what day it is. Which feels simultaneously luxurious and unnerving?
Hi Amy - I've never commented on anything you've written before or on any Style Class episode, and I haven't even finished reading this post yet, but when you mentioned your fear of Alzheimer's, it really hit home. My father had the worse kind of Alzheimer's, the kind that completely erased the greatest man I have ever known. And my mother died with some form of dementia too, so I know what it feels like to have that weigh upon you. You used the word "succumbed", and it really is the perfect descriptor. ChatGPT tells me it means to give in to something, usually after resisting it or to be overcome by something stronger. You never quite get over watching the strongest people you know be overcome by this horrible disease. I know that's not really what this post is about, and I can't wait to read the rest because I have truly learned so much from you and your talented team about expressing myself through my style, but I felt the need to comment today.
Another great post, Amy! Tibi has been so wonderful for me building my pyramid--but it doesn't stop me from wanting the same thing over and over! If someone has a modifier that leans away from some types of cuts or fabrics--do you think they should still push themselves to round out their wardrobe categories no matter their modifier? For example, my modifier is "nostalgia" and I am in love with triple-pleat pants/shorts and Stellas (in bio-twill, denim, TW, different nylons) and other femine bottoms like the balloon skirt and the pinch pleat dress. Should people like me force themselves to branch out?
My friend was seriously concerned about her memory issues - had every test under the sun. Turns out she has ADHD and was prescribed something. Life changing!
The grid is very helpful in deconstructing what you see but I am unable to connect the descriptors in the grid to the photos of the pants. For the 2 pants from which you created the different outfit vibes, I can see the pants on the left fall straighter than the ones on the right but I’m not sure which descriptors you used in the grid. Do you try to describe the vibe created in the complete outfit?

I thought it was Mark Twain as well!

Thank you for this. Oh it is the worst to see- my great aunt was the most amazing business woman so sharp- and then ….
I’ve been hearing you talk about her on Almost Reckless (audiobook). She sounds like a truly amazing woman.

U only force if it’s a true craving goal u want to achieve. Otherwise don’t break what isn’t broken!
Thank you!
