#3: 10 reasons why I wrote Almost Reckless
In my words told through someone else’s words.
Reason number three: the algorithm isn’t the plan and it definitely doesn’t (shouldn’t) build your path.
Back in the day……before there was an algorithm, the common refrain bleated at me from industry experts was: “this is how it’s done. Period.” Often this made no sense to me, but who was I to contradict - after all, these are “experts”. Fast forward to the advent of the “accessible algorithm” - a tool (weapon) that can, and often is, used by literally anyone in your organization, your social media feed or even your family dining room table. This tool has made not only the “experts” more resolute in their proclamations but now everyone else is too! Emboldened to declare unequivocally what you should do and how. You could be crazy to contradict, the people have spoken.
I wrote the book to address the thousands that have DM’d me over the years for help in clearing their head of the algorithm noise to pursue what they felt to be right. I wanted to use the book to show others how we didn’t rebuke the algorithm as an act of defiance but rather as an act of survival. Not to stay in business but rather to create the business, and life, we’d always wanted.
Will Guidara graciously sums it up here:
‘Almost Reckless isn’t just a book, it’s a permission slip. It’s about the courage it takes to step off the algorithm’s path, the clarity that comes from defining your own principles, and the joy of building something that feels unmistakably yours.’ -Will Guidara, restaurateur and bestselling author of Unreasonable Hospitality
I’m so thankful to Will for writing this. Why? Because when someone you deeply admire, whose principles you are aligned with, says something like this it matters to you - very much. Will writing this quote about my book is a full circle moment for me. When Unreasonable Hospitality was published, I bought the book for our team members at Tibi. It’s not just an inspiring book but it’s actionable - for your business life AND your personal life. Or if you’re like me, they’re often so intertwined it’s hard to tell the difference. Please read it if you have not - it will hit on many levels. Here’s a LINK to shop.
And in the meantime, if you’d like to preorder your issue of Almost Reckless I would be truly grateful. Penguin USA order here and Penguin UK order here.
