2 days till runway show….what’s in my head.
From a Founder and Creative Director
9am arrive at the office. Everyone’s there already and as usual I feel so guilty- I talk to other business owners and this feeling is common.
10:30 makeup test with Bobbi Brown. Sarah briefs the team “natural, lean in on one feature to play up, make it real.” And Cassandra the head artist says “ok, the usual.”
1pm: lunch is potato chips spicy Kobe beef flavored. So good. Cassius is drooling so hard and Traci boring daggers in to me as he moves around the collection.
1:30: head next door to Printemps to buy new perfume. I need a hard reset, time for a new scent. It’s Abel’s PAUSE. Perfect name, it’s just what I need in my life.
3pm: someone’s very upset about my substack yesterday. I delete the comment. We work way to hard to create a great space, so people don’t get to come in and lay a big turd, Unfortunately, my delete emboldens her and she writes again. I make the decision to respond in comments - something I never do. But I view this as an opportunity to be clear about my thoughts on rudeness. For now.
4pm: visit our show space - I’m working on a board for our event - something you can touch/feel and get idea of the collection. Our intern is from Mexico City, she’s really clued in and so grateful for her help her. I met her in London at one of our styling events - she was a student there and she showed up to say she’d love to work with us. Glad this happened.
5:30pm: mom and dad arrive and call to say their hotel room is the size of a dog bed. I don’t get to see them tonight, bummer.
6:30pm: Chateau Royale on Thompson Street. I get to meet up with Lauren Sherman - former BOF and now THE PUCK. And that’s a great thing - love what people are doing, independent without obligation to satisfy everyone. One days trend does not have to be the next days disaster, if you have real people keeping it real. Spend time with Ana Andjelic from The Sociology of Business and a real life conversation confirms why I love her Substack. Her Substack is expensive, but that’s because it is pure business insight, not musings. That means work, investigation, and applying her knowledge and experience. She’s the real deal.
7:00pm: I meet Mickey Drexler. He says he was just talking about Tibi yesterday - and what a strange coincidence. That’s super nice. Funny I’d never met him - after 28 years in business, but then again, I always hid from fashion events, I’m a crazy introvert that way. I can only function in places where people are having real conversations - no kiss and snark. And when I have participated in it, I feel almost sick. Back then, I really didn’t like my industry. But now we’ve created our own industry, and it’s unfamiliar to everyone and I like it like that. It works for us and honestly, that’s all that matters. It is our lives afterall.
10:30pm: I see a cab stopped, open the door and as I’m getting in see a girl from the opposite side is hopping it. I apologize, but she says “where are you going?” We’re headed in the same direction and she says let’s share. Ok???? This doesn’t happen in NYC. I ask where she’s from - she says NY. Hmmm…. But she just graduated from SMU, she’s working for a jewelry brand that is focused on fine jewelry that is for the college set. She shows me her pendant - it’s of arches - UGA’s arches - my Alma matter. Nice. She tells me about her work for the rest of the journey - offers to Venmo me - I say no, first because i was going uptown anyways and second because i can’t get my Venmo to work but that’s too much to explain as she’s exiting in traffic.
11:00pm: stay at friends apartment and watch an episode of America’s Next Top Model - the makeover edition. That blonde girl that got the Twiggy cut is PISSED - she’s all “who the fuck is Twiggy?»> pure drama here.
3am: I wake up, I’ve dreamt that Sarah and Frank (ceo) had a huge meeting on company strategy and she purposely locked him out so he couldn’t come in and she took over the whole meeting. Nothing Freudian here I promise, this is not her vibe.
6am: officially wake up. Write a letter that Allison in Ecomm is asking me for the third time to get done; finesse a plan I’ll be reviewing with the stylists after the shop closes tonight, and respond to 7 texts regarding runway installment, runway lineup and what my parents will be eating for breakfast.
Real life Amy. That’s why we love you. You don’t sugarcoat anything. F that girl… ❤️
Good luck! This is so much work for you and the team. Excited to see the show!
