Love your list! Thank you for a ready 10 answers to the question, What should we watch? I doubt my (young adult) kids have seen many of them, so that’s a double treat. I would like to add The Ballad of Wallis Island. Truly a gem and I’m not sure why it’s not on everyone’s (or really anyone’s) 10 best of 2025. It’s heartfelt and hilarious, and will restore your faith in humanity.

I love this list!

That's a bummer about Sling Blade- it was one of my high school best friend's favorites. Along with The Lost Boys...

I recently rewatched Ordinary People and cried as if it were the first (not the fortieth) time viewing. MTM is stellar but it’s Timothy and Judd that ultimately crack me wide open. Along with the soundtrack. Great list!!

I just watched CROSSING DELANCEY for the first time ever a week ago. For some reason, all these decades, I had it mixed up w the Coen's movie MILLER'S CROSSING?!? I was utterly smitten - what a perfect rom com. That scene in Papaya King 🌭❤️

Yes! This list of films is terrific! I like every one of them. But may I add a couple more? First – While "Ninotchka" - the Greta Garbo/Melvin Douglas masterpiece – manages to ridicule a Communist bureaucracy where things may (or may not) be better for some, but not all – it never once makes fun of Ninotchka's allegiance to the cause. It never makes her the butt of a joke. It's a v difficult line to walk, but Lubitch does exactly that. We love Ninotchka's values. And we love the way she faces her own hard truths – with sadness and loss, but with some personal hope. And we certainly understand how Melvin Douglas would fall in love with her and she with him. Secondly – "Holiday" – a grand film with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn (very loosely based on Gerald and Sara Murphy), two young people who turned from what may have been apparent comfort to forge lives of art and adventure, filled with people who had important things to say and share. V much in contrast to the status-quo limits of worlds awaiting them at home. These films were made decades before we were born - but they feel fresh and important – and I think you'll love them. I know I do.
